3 QUESTIONS FOR KINGS v DUCKS(Sep 24th)
Tonight is the third preseason game for the LA Kings on the 2025-26 Preseason schedule. They take on the Anaheim Ducks in Anaheim at 7:00PM
The Game roster is listed here.
With the knowledge of who will be available to play in Las Vegas tonight it leaves me asking three questions.
QUESTION ONE: Who will play minutes in goal?
Carter George played the first preseason game. Anton Forsberg played the second preseason game. Both net minders allowed only a single goal. Carter stopped 26 of 27 shots against the Ducks in Ontario while Forsberg stopped 32 of 33 against the Golden Knights last night in Las Vegas.
Pheonix Copley dressed as the backup for both games with Isaiah Saville making both game rosters but not dressing for either game.
The Kings have listed Darcy Kuemper, Erik Portllo and Isaiah Saville on the Game Roster but Isaiah Saville is also listed in Group C in today’s Training Camp roster. I think it’s safe to infer from this that he will once again be the emergency backup goalie for the Kings tonight in Anaheim leaving the remaining question… who will start the game for the Kings? Kuemper or Portillo?
QUESTION TWO:
Will we see last seasons forward lines in tonight’s game or will the coaching staff experiment with new combinations.
Kuzmenko, Kopitar, Kempe, Fiala, Byfield and Laferriere are all on tonight’s game roster.
Will the Kings play their Top 2 lines tonight? They’ve been kept together fairly consistently in Training Camp to this point and Jim Hiller and the players have implied in media availabilities that theyre comfortable with those combinations.
The remaining forwards on the game roster are made up of players with NHL “bottom 6” and AHL experience.
QUESTION THREE:
Will we see last seasons defensive pairs in tonight’s game or will the coaching staff experiment with new combinations.
Anderson and Doughty are on the game roster and have been a consistent pair when they’re healthy for a few seasons now. They have also been paired together consistently in training camp.
Edmundson and Clarke are also on the roster for tonight’s game but Clarke played with Moverare in Anaheim in the Empire Classis. Last season Edmundson and Clarke played 747 minutes together as a pair which ranked second in Time On Ice amongst defensive pairs on the Kings.
