SOME ACTUAL BLOGGING

When Jon Bernier was drafted 11th overall in 2006 by Dean Lombardi, it was the first step in Lombardi’s plan to re-build the LA Kings from the “back-out.” And Bernier was to be what this team had never seen before… a home-grown franchise goalie. And then a funny thing happened.

Jon Quick.

And slowly, the once seemingly solid “Franchise Goaltender” tag for Jon Bernier started to show some wear and tear around Los Angeles.

It’s really sad what has become of Jon Bernier in Toronto. It’s easy (really easy, actually) for all of us to make jokes about where Bernier is now and how his trade to Toronto basically paved the way for Marian Gaborik and a 2nd Stanley Cup to make its way to Los Angeles. Sure, he didn’t play in a game after March 31st during that magical 2012 run… but his name will forever be attached with the first bit of actual history this team has ever achieved. And we should give him a pass for that.
