The 2015-16 NHL Season is 4 days old and over 30 games have already been played. So it’s the perfect time for #TeamTRH to weigh in with their predictions and #HotTakes for the upcoming already started season!

Season Predictions are a great way to show your prowess as a hockey blogger but more importantly it’s an incredible way to torment your friends when their predictions go horribly wrong!

 ¯\_()_/¯

We asked our #TeamTRH “experts” to give us 5 Bold #HotTakes as well as their Divisional, Conference, Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe winning predictions for the season. And guess what? Some of them even paid attention! And then a shockingly large amount of bloggers picked the Maple Leafs to make the playoffs.

So sit back, enjoy, and be sure to tweet early and often to remind us of every wrong prediction we’ve made.

King Tufficult

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. That 70’s Line will finish the year with over 63 goals (their total last year)*                                                                   *offer only applies to Carter/Toffoli/Pearson
  2. The Edmonton Oilers, in an attempt to continue getting younger, trade for an actual baby in December. They end up finishing the year with 25 wins and a bunch of colicky fans.
  3. The San Jose Sharks will trainwreck further. Their fans’ tears will burst forth from Twitter, combining with El Nino to create a weather super-event.
  4. The Chicago Blackhawks will have a season from hell similar to Los Angeles’ 2014-2015.
  5. Someone other than PumperNicholl will win the #TeamTRH fantasy hockey league this year.
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Kings, because Milan Lucic will fit in well with the Kings; the team’s pride will have a lot to prove this year; our prospect pipeline will provide real depth toward the end of the season.
Who Wins the Central?
  • The St. Louis Blues will continue to troll themselves in the same hilarious and predictable fashion as the last few years.
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Tampa Bay Lightning. This team looks incredible on paper, and Stamkos is unstoppable. Also I intend to draft several players from their roster and I really need a better showing in my league this year.
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • NY Islanders. Sorry, I read this question wrong. I couldn’t see it properly with this obstructed seating in the way.
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • Kings and Blues. Like the little brother that’s been picked on too many times, the Blues have a thirst for revenge that will carry them all the way to the WCF versus the Kings for one more high-stakes chance at vindication. The series will forever be known as the *fart noise* heard ’round the world.
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Canadiens and Lightning
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Kings and Lightning.
Who Wins the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe?
  • The Los Angeles Kings will continue their even-yeared dominance and capture their 3rd cup just when the rest of the world had written them off. The Conn Smythe will be won by Kopitar, who puts in the masterful playoff magnum opus of his career, and carries the Kings to their next championship. King Tufficult will write a tear-jerking longform article about it that will win a Peabody and forever change the way puns and fart jokes are treated in blogging literature.

Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?

  • Kings and Predators, so the Kings can wear their throwback gold jerseys and the Predators can wear their mustard yellow jerseys.

  4. Jaromir Jagr will be traded by the Panthers at the deadline.
  5. Mike Milbury will say something dumb.

  • Chicago Blackhawks but the real question should be “What year will the Blackhawks not win the Central?”
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Montreal Canadiens
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • Washington Capitals. Two words: Justin Williams. Also because the Metro is hot garbage.

  • Kings and Blackhawks
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Canadiens and Islanders
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Kings and Canadiens
Who Wins the Stanley Cup?
  • The Annual Even Year Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings will win in 2016. The Conn Smythe will go to Drew Doughty.

LA Queen of Meme

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Tyler Toffoli gets 5 goals in one game, 49 for the season and scores a major endorsement deal. Probably for toothpaste.
  2.  I will not get into any verbal altercations related to people stumbling around while the PUCK IS IN PLAY. This one is actually legally required. Wish me luck.
  3. Capitals make it to the Stanley Cup Final after they win the East in Game 7 (and you know WH–Y).
  4. Tanner Pearson inadvertently lands a Triple Salchow after scoring a GWG and gives the camera a rakish wink which ushers in an era of “Tannermania” and results in a vanity single that stays on top of the charts for 15 weeks.
  5. Gustl gets dognapped but escapes and makes a brave journey home with the help of a street smart pigeon named El Gris and a lovable derp, Mr.Fluffernutter, the Pomeranian-Australian Shepherd mix. Disney buys the rights for $2.5 million before realizing they already made this movie, like, 13 times.
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Edmonton Oilers. Oh, they won’t really. I just like to be different and pretend I am a unique and special snowflake.
Who Wins the Central?
  • Colorado Avalanche. After that strong showing at Frozen Fury, I think it’s pretty obvs that they are coming out like a wall of snow, rocks and ice rapidly cascading down a mountainside.
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Toronto Maple Leafs. Because that’ll make it hurt more later when they lose.
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • Washington Capitals
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • Kings and Blackhawks because I thought those are the terms we agreed to as part of our shared custody arrangement.
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Bruins and Capitals
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Kings and Capitals
Who Wins the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe?
  • Kings and Tyler Toffoli

Knick Rickle

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Raffi Torres will get suspended once more upon serving his current 41-game term and be sent to Guantanamo Bay.
  2. There will be one game between the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks this season pitting Ben Scrivens against Martin Jones ending in a final score of 8-7… And Jonathan Quick will laugh.
  3. The Manchester Monarchs make like the 2014-15 LA Kings and fail to make the AHL Playoffs.
  4. The Minnesota Wild will acquire a goaltender at the Trade Deadline.
  5. Dean Lombardi stuns the hockey world once again when he trades Mike Richards’ cap hit for Steven Stamkos.
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Kings
Who Wins the Central?
  • St. Louis Blues, so they can get #ReverseSwept in the first round as a one-seed and rightfully claim the title of the new San Jose Sharks.
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Toronto Maple Leafs because No Kessel = President’s Trophy. Right, Toronto media?
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • New York Islanders
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • KNICK DID NOT ANSWER
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Lightning and Islanders

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Lucic has more games lost to suspension than goals scored
  2. The Martin Jones-led San Jose Sharks ousts the Kings in round 1 of playoffs
  3. The Martin Jones-led Sharks playing the Ducks in round 2 of playoffs (doesn’t matter who wins as I would probably Eternal Sunshine my brain if this happens)
  4. The Martin Jones-led San Jose Sharks vs Justin Williams led Washington Capitals in 2016 Stanley Cup Final
  5. Any team from Pacific Division holding up the Stanley Cup* *doesn’t apply to Oilers
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Anaheim Ducks because who is better when nothing is really on the line than the Ducks?
Who Wins the Central?
  • Nashville Predators because they learned from last year’s disappointment and Chicago doesn’t care about winning the division.
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Montreal Canadiens because PK Subban is amazing and Jay Baruchel is giving us a Goon 2 so good karma is coming Canadiens way.
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • Columbus Blue Jackets
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • Ducks and Predators
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Lightning and Capitals
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Predators and Capitals
Who Wins the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe?
  • Washington in 6 (after they go down 2-0 and a brilliant Caps fan starts a Justin Williams lock screen movement on Twitter). Ovechkin wins the Smythe (really just want that to happen to see Jesse Cohen’s reaction).

Shawnze Kopitar

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Willie Mitchell will catch an 8 pound Kokanee in Okanagan Lake….oh sorry, wrong prediction.
  2. Nathan MacKinnon will lead the Avalanche to a first round playoff elimination.
  3. Lucic will score 25 goals.
  4. Sharks blue line will force Martin Jones to check into rehab for “dehydration.”
  5. The #KORELine (Kane-O’Reilly-Ennis) will become a thing on Twitter for the Sabres .
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Anaheim Ducks because they have depth, veteran leadership and something to prove. I hate to say it, but I think the addition of Bieksa bodes well for them too. But like, they’ll eventually choke right?
Who Wins the Central?
  • Dallas Stars because they’ve got top forwards coming out of their ears.
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Buffalo Sabres because I just really want to see them have some success.
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • New York Islanders because I watched the E:60 on Travis Hamonic last season and somehow my feelings about that are tied to the success of the Islanders in their division.
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • Kings and Ducks
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Islanders and Capitals
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Kings and Capitals because if I’m going to be spending time blogging for the Kings this season, they’d BETTER go all the way.
Who Wins the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe?
  • Kings and Jeff Carter.

Mike Commito

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Connor McDavid will not win the Calder Memorial Trophy.
  2. Despite the league’s best efforts to minimize his play to a half season, Raffi Torres will play more than 41 games due to a trade in the mid-season.
  3. Milan Lucic will score 30+ goals for the Kings.
  4. Joe Pavelski will not be the Sharks captain at the end of the 2015-16 season.
  5. Anze Kopitar will finally win the Frank J. Selke Trophy.
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Kings
Who Wins the Central?
  • Chicago Blackhawks
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Toronto Maple Leafs because it would be the most Leafiest Leafs moment if they somehow win the Atlantic Division while at the depths of their rebuild. Who am I to argue with the Hockey Gods?
Who wins the MetroI’MSORRY I CAN’T EVEN SAY THAT NAME?
  • Washington Capitals
Who are the Two Teams in the Western Conference Finals?
  • Kings and Blues
Who are the Two Teams in the Eastern Conference Finals?
  • Lightning vs. Capitals because it would be the perfect reunion of the Flor-East Division final!
Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?
  • Kings and Capitals
Who Wins the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe?
  • This may pain the readers, but I believe that Washington is icing one of their best teams in years and they’ve been my Stanley Cup favourite all-summer. As for the Conn Smythe, while Holtby would likely be a top frontrunner and critical to a Caps victory, Alex Ovechkin would be just as integral and having him win both the Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup might finally be enough to do away with the tired “enigmatic, hasn’t won anything” narrative still floating around in the mainstream media.

Ryan McKenzie

5 Bold Predictions:
  1. Phil Kessel will succeed in Pittsburgh, regardless of being out of shape for the majority of the year.
  2. Pierre McGuire will cost NBC millions in lost viewership.
  3. Nashville will close the year with a home record well above .500 due to the crippling nausea opponents will be forced play through while looking at the Predators home attire for 60 minutes.
  4. Neither Connor McDavid nor Jack Eichel win the Calder Trophy. That honour goes to Artemi Panarin, because Stan Bowman obviously (allegedly) practices voodoo.
  5. The Flames implode in spectacular fashion by the end of 2015, returning the balance of hockey life to its rightful place. Two Alberta teams at the bottom of the standings, fighting over who is least relevant. (SPOILER: Connor McDavid means Calgary is.)
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Anaheim Ducks
Who Wins the Central?
  • St. Louis Blues
Who Wins the Atlantic?
  • Tampa Bay Lightning

Who are the Two Teams in the Stanley Cup Final?

  2. Semin will have a bounce-back year, providing the already scary Canadien team with even more depth.
  3. Kessel will score one goal for each time the Toronto mainstream media made a hot dog joke during his tenure as a Leaf.
  4. The Stars will establish themselves as a dominant team in the Central division on the back of their ridiculous top six and the Finnish duo in net.
  5. Lucic returns to 20-goals-form, having a career year on the first line with Gabo and Kopitar.
Who Wins the Pacific?
  • Anaheim Ducks
Who Wins the Central?
  • St. Louis Blues
