As the great Admiral Ackbar once said: “It’s a trap!”
With a shootout loss last night, the LA Kings will face the biggest game of their season when they take on the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
The Kings still control their playoff destiny. And Thursday’s game will likely determine which of the two teams will make the playoffs.
Only thing is the Kings face the Edmonton Oilers tonight. The same Oilers team that the Kings embarrassed 8-2 at home last week. An Oilers team that would love nothing more than to play the role of spoiler again and again, year after year, because they aren’t very good. But they are an NHL team full of NHL players that, despite what their record may indicate, enjoy winning.
Still, the Kings have dominated the Oilers over the past few seasons. In fact, the Kings have gone 11-0-2 against the Oilers in their past 13 meetings, in which they’ve managed to outscore them 44-15.
The Kings know they can’t afford to lose any more games this season, especially a game against a team that has the third-worst record in the league.
Everything points to the Kings winning this game: Head-to-head record, goal differential, advanced stats, everything.
Yet, I still can’t help shake the feeling that something bad could happen tonight.
Todd Nelson says he is "leaning" to starting Richard Bachman tomorrow
— Bob Stauffer (@Bob_Stauffer) April 6, 2015
Oh phew.
Richard Bachman has spent parts of five season with the Oilers and Dallas Stars. In that time, he’s amassed a 16-14-2 record with a 2.96 GAA and a .903 SV%, hardly anything to write home about. So I guess we don’t have too much to worry about after all.
Let’s roll the Kings vs. Bachman highlight reel to get ourselves ready for the goal parade that will occur tonight!
Haha allowing a goal to Mike Richards!
OK, show the next highlight.
What do you mean “that’s it?”
Richard Bachman's career stats vs LA Kings: 2-0-1 record 0.70 GAA .979 SV%
