The LA Kings have 3 games left in their 2014-15 season and they will not make the playoffs without significant help from the rest of the league. Knowing which team to root for in any given matchup can be complicated so we’ve put together this handy guide for you.
Some of the rooting interests may shift during this final week as standings chance and potential playoff match ups shift. We’ll also be keeping track of how many teams can finish above the Kings in the standings. For now we’ll call them
…PASSING NUMBERS
Any Kings win reduces every Passing Number (or PN) by 2.
A regulation loss by any team reduces their PN by 2.
Any Kings OT/SO loss reduces every PN by 1.
An OT/SO loss by any team reduces their PN by 1.
Any Kings loss or win by another team does not change the Passing Numbers.
Once a teams Passing Number reaches zero, they cannot finish higher than the Kings at the end of the season.
Vancouver
Games remaining: 2
Passing number: 9
Winnipeg
Games remaining: 3

Calgary

Why? WHY must I keep rooting for the Blues???
Root: BLUES
The season is almost over and I desperately want the Arizona Coyotes to win a game.
I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumors but I think the Hockey Gods have a sick sense of humor and when The Flames die I expect to find them laughing.
Root: COYOTES
It really does pain me to root so hard against the Jets. They’re fun and their fans deserve a little happiness… but if it comes down to them or the Kings… this one is black and white.
Root: AVALANCHE
This is insanity. I’m more likely to see a Coyote talk than I am to see them beat the Flames AND the Canucks in back to back games.
Root: COYOTES
The Edmonton Oilers are so bad they can’t even finish in last place right.
Root: OILERS
This could be the single most important game of the season. Or it could mean nothing.
That’s the kind of season this has been.
