The last time the LA Kings and Colorado Avalanche faced-off, we played the percentages on the Kings playoff chances.
It was a big game for the Kings and the rolled through Denver in the middle of their eight-game win streak.
This time around, it’s the Avs that are hanging on to their glimmer of hope for making the playoffs.
Recent wins over the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars have put the Avalanche seven points outside of the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. While it’s very unlikely that they can make up that much ground in the final month of the season, it’s even more unlikely that Patrick Roy will have his team start tanking down the stretch.
Patrick Roy is an intense guy is what I’m trying to say.
And the Kings have a habit of losing games that everyone expects them to win. Typically these are reserved for December through January, but who knows with this team anymore. They find themselves (again) two points back of the Calgary Flames and three points back of the Winnipeg Jets. So if they can actually start winning games against teams below them in the standings they may just make the playoffs.
Just don’t be surprised to see the Avalanche throw everything they possibly can at the Kings in this Kitchen Sink game for the home team.
Still, it would take something truly crazy for the Avs to get a win tonight. I just think the Kings are playing at a playoff level and nothing will slow them down.
OH GOD WHY DID THEY HAVE TO START THEIR BACK-UP GOALIE?!
