THE ROOT TO THE PLAYOFFS: Feb. 23rd – Feb. 26th

The LA Kings have 23 games left in their 2014-15 season and they will not make the playoffs without significant help from the rest of the league. Knowing which team to root for in any given matchup can be complicated so we’ve put together this handy guide for you.

Rooting Guidelines for games not involving the Kings:

RULE 1 – Always root for an Eastern Conference Team over a Western Conference Team.

RULE 2 – Almost always root for a Central Division Team over a Pacific Division Team.

RULE 3 – Always root for the higher ranked team when two Central Division Teams are playing each other.

MONDAY, February 23rd

Detroit at Anaheim

There’s no games on the schedule today that impact the Kings playoff chances so take the opportunity to root against an old rival just for the heck of it.

ACTUAL RESULT :

TUESDAY, February 24th

Vancouver at Boston

Remember that time the Boston Bruins beat the Canucks and Vancouver almost lost it’s mind? More of that please. The Canucks are a longtime rival of the Kings and currently sit three points ahead of them in the standings with an extra game played.

Calgary at New York Rangers

The Calgary Flames have been defying the odds all season long, clinging to a playoff spot seemingly with nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Let’s hope New York Rangers can keep the Flames free falling into non-playoff contention.

Colorado at Nashville

The Colorado Avalanche continue to make rumblings as a dark horse. Hopefully the Nashville Predators can stop Patrick Roy from knocking down the door to serious contention.

Edmonton at Minnesota

This is precisely the kind of thing I want to see happen to the Minnesota Wild. Just not in the shootout. Regulation losses only, please.

Dallas at Winnipeg

What jam-packed night of hockey would be complete without a game between two Western Conference playoff contenders playing each other? Whether you think it’s better to root for the injury-plagued team chasing the Kings or the team just ahead of them in the standings, the real concern is the dreaded three-point game.

I know, I know…  I already used that GIF earlier and it’s not even that recent. That’s how much we need the Flames to start losing! Plus it’ll never be not funny.

Unless the Kings somehow acquire Dion Phaneuf.

Then it never happened.

At some point Pavalec and Hutchinson have to stop being so competent, right?
