LA Kings Player Power Rankings – Week 21

In honor of the Kings’ Stadium Series victory, I wrote this week’s Power Rankings outside while wearing white pants. I’m sure you’ll be able to tell the difference.

Drew Doughty – Doughty still isn’t a Norris Trophy frontrunner. Maybe Sutter should just start playing him 40 minutes per game. No, wait! Darryl, I was kidding!!! (Last week: 1)
Jeff Carter – Carts has a six-game point streak going. A streak that started against the Blue Jackets. Thanks again, Lumbus! (Last week: 2)
Anze Kopitar – ANZE KOPITAR NEEDS TO SHOOT MORE! (looks at new Enhanced Stats page) Err, umm, whatever, he still needs to shoot more! (Last week: 3)
Tyler Toffoli – Toffoli “only” scored one goal this week, but he gets moved up in the rankings thanks to the Bruno bump. (Last week: 5)
Jonathan Quick – A terrific week for Quick, especially against Colorado where he bailed out the Kings against a… wait for it… Avalanche of shots. (Last week: 6)
Marian Gaborik – Gaborik broke out of his scoring slump and exposed Antii Niemi as the true identity of Left Shark. (Last week: 4)
Dwight King – King has been playing like a possessed maniac of late, which is great because now his game matches his face. (Last week: 11)
Trevor Lewis – This whole “Trevor Lewis driving offense” thing has officially gone from flukey joke to essential part of the Kings resurgence. (Last week: 9)
Dustin Brown – Brown continues to be a solid contributor. His drop in the rankings is only an indicator of how much the rest of the team has been stepping up. (Last week: 8)
Justin Williams – What the hell?! A SEVEN-game winning streak against the Sharks and Williams doesn’t do anything in the game? Maybe he is washed up. (Last week: 7)
Jake Muzzin – I keep checking the new NHL enhanced stats for “turnovers leading to scoring chances” to see where Muzzin ranks, but it doesn’t look like they’ve added that yet. I’m guessing that will be in v2.0. (Last week: 10)
Alec Martinez – Still out with a nagging brain injury. (Last week: 12)
Jarret Stoll – The Kings have a seven-game winning streak and Stoll hasn’t been to the penalty box in eight games. Coincidence? (Last week: 13)
Robyn Regehr – Every time Regehr gets 27 minutes of ice time in a game, the price for the Kings trading for blue line help goes up. (Last week: 14)
Kyle Clifford – Naturally, the Kings turned to Kyle Clifford to break their Stadium Series scoring drought. (Last week: 17)
Matt Greene – Greene didn’t score this week, but he did sit on Jon Quick resulting in an opponent’s goal, so I guess that kind of counts. (Last week: 15)
Brayden McNabb – With no candidates for the “no goals in a month” jinx breaker, let’s see if the “no goals in an all season” jinx breaker can work. SPOILER ALERT: It won’t work. (Last week: 16)
Jordan Nolan – Another week, another goal for Nolan. Wait… WHAT? (Last week: 20)
Nick Shore – Shore had what was surely an exciting moment when the Kings played in his hometown of Denver. He still couldn’t score there either, but I’m sure he enjoyed the moment. (Last week: 18)
Martin Jones – Have you seen this goalie? If so, please call the National Center For Missing Back-ups. (Last week: 19)
Jamie McBain – There are a lot of reasons to not like McBain, but the confusion created by the McBain-McNabb pairing is more than enough to justify the Kings making a trade for another D-man. (Last week: 21)
Andy Andreoff – The correct spelling of Andreoff is S-C-R-A-T-C-H. (Last week: 22)
Derek Forbort – Apparently Forbort was called up because the rest of the guys needed someone to help carry their bags. (Last week: 23)

Agree? Disagree? I don’t really care! If you still feel compelled to sound off on the rankings, go ahead and leave a comment. It’s a free world.
