Greeting Kings fans! Jesse Cohen from All The Kings Men here!

The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings have won The Stanley Cup in 4 of the previous 5 seasons and have faced each other in the Western Conference Finals the last two seasons. The 2014 Western Conference Finals in particular has been lauded as one of the finest in the history of the game. No two teams have dominated the NHL in this fashion since the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup a combined 5 times in 7 seasons (from 1995-96 to 2001-02) and faced each other in five playoff series over that same span.

The 2015 NHL All Star Ballot features a combined 12 players from both the Kings and Hawks. In 2014 the two teams combined to send 16 players to the Sochi Olympics. The two teams find themselves tied for 6th in the Western Conference with 29 points after 23 games and it would come as a surprise to none if they faced each other again in the 2015 Western Conference Finals. They say “Familiarity breeds contempt” and the Hawks and Kings have certainly had their dust ups. I prefer to think their true feelings for each other are best expressed by Wes Mantooth, in the now timeless classic “Anchorman : The Legend of Ron Burgundy”

So rarely are we afforded an opportunity to see two competitors operating simultaneously at the peak of their abilities. Kings vs. Blackhawks is already flush with story lines and appears destined to continue providing one entertaining chapter after another. Each showdown eagerly anticipated like Christmas morning.

Here’s a list of some other current rivalries that come close to capturing the excitement, the tension and the mastery of The Los Angeles Kings vs.The Chicago Blackhawks.

Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning

131117205736-brady-manning-single-image-cut_crop_exact“Tom Terrific”. “The Sheriff”. These are nicknames without even a hint of irony. These two future Hall of Famers have faced off four times in the NFL Playoffs. The rivalry is made particularly interesting because Manning was the 1st overall selection in the 1998 NFL Draft while Tom Brady was selected in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft. Tom Brady has more Super Bowl wins but Peyton Manning has the better SNL appearance and the better commercials

Jimmy Kimmel vs. Jimmy Fallon

While your grandparents were arguing over Jay Leno vs. Dave Letterman these two comics were slowly conquering the world. Whether it’s a viral video of children melting down after Halloween or Emma Stone channeling both Whiz Khalifa and Ludacris, these two Late Night TV personalities are sure to dominate the pop culture landscape for years to come.

Also how weird is it that they’re both named Jimmy?

Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

You know what I’m talking about nerds. Now that JJ Abrams is in charge of both franchises it’s going to be even harder to pick your favorite. If Sci-Fi isn’t you thing you can just replace this one with Lord Of the Rings vs. Game of Thrones or World of Warcraft vs. Having a Life.

Let’s be honest though, this was just an excuse to bring up the trailer for The Force Awakens. DID YOU SEE THAT? IT’S GOT THE MILLENIUM FALCON IN IT!!!

Home Made Cranberry Sauce vs. Store Bought Cranberry Sauce

540132_478843698825938_453863694_nSure homemade Cranberry sauce has real fruit, hints of citrus and maybe a few shaved almonds tossed in for good measure but the stuff from the aluminum can makes that cool *schlllllllllluuuup* sound when you finally manage to shimmy it out into the open. Plus you can still see the ridges from the side of the can! Also it’s loaded with sugar and tastes exactly like happy childhood memories. Anybody who wastes any time arguing over which is truly better is missing the point. They’re both awesome and whenever they’re both available the REAL winner is YOU.

Five Guys vs. In-N-Out

I’ve literally seen family members come to blows over this one. The less said about it the better.

So there you have it Kings fans. This is the golden age of rivalries and the end is nowhere in sight. Before you go and enjoy another chapter in this unfolding Kings vs. Blackhawks saga I urge you to relive this moment from the 2014 Western Conference Finals and realize just how close we came to matching those Red Wings and Avalanche games.
