Discussing the issues that #TeamTRH members had with the current system, we decided it was in our best interest to attempt our own blogger vote for the 2013-14 NHL awards.
And after a few tweaks, the Professional Hockey Bloggers’ Association was born!
Sup.
We wanted equal representation across the league, which is why we reached out to 2 blogs from each team in the NHL.
Beyond that, we also wanted to bring in some of the biggest bloggers in the industry. And we lucky enough to have them participate.
The PHBA was able to recruit Ryan Lambert, Dave Lozo, Harrison Mooney, Jon Rosen and Mark Stepneski.
What we asked from the blogs was a vote for each of the 7 major awards.
The blog ranked their top five candidates on a 10-7-5-3-1 point system.
Important to note: Each blog was only given ONE entry.
The result? Well, you decide!
Is the inaugural PHBA vote worse than what the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and NHL General Managers put out for you every year, or are the team-specific blogs you’ve come to know and love providing you with a better representation of who should win each award?
Below are the voting results for each award. At the very bottom of the page, you’ll see exactly how each blog voted.
Take that, PHWA!
This is our first attempt to compile a league-wide vote, and we’d love to expand in the future. There are so many amazing blogs out there, but we just didn’t have the time or resources this year to bring in more than this year’s 65 participants.
For updates on the voting, check out the Professional Hockey Bloggers’ Association on Twitter @ThePHBA. We’ll link to the bloggers who participated so you can see why they voted for a particular player or coach.
