TRH VINTAGE VIDEO SEASON PREVIEW: 1993 CANUCKS VS KINGS – GAME 5

It’s Pacific Division Season Preview Week-O-Rama here at The Royal Half… and everyone is getting in on the action! So for our resident LA Kings Video HistorianSpike Coffman… putting together a Season Preview means taking a look back at some awesome vintage video. So to celebrate Vancouver Canucks day on TRH… Spike put together some clips from Game 5 of the 1993 Smythe Division Finals as the 88 regular season point LA Kings took on the heavy favorites, the 101 regular season point Vancouver Canucks. It’s something we like to call….

Surprisingly enough, that was one of Charlie Huddy’s better clearing attempts as a LA King.

Seriously, is there more of a “Gretzky as a LA King” goal than this one?

“Both Luc Robitaille wide open… and a man coming in.”

FYI, Petr Nedved IS STILL PLAYING PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY.

You should watch this clip just to hear Jim Fox butcher Pavel Bure’s name.

Who knew that the one good trade Mike Keenan would ever make
would be Trevor Linden to the Islanders?

And until June 9th of 2013… Game 5 against the Vancouver Canucks in 1993 was the longest LA Kings game in their franchise history.

Even Barry Melrose is bored by now.

Pretty much the only time you’ve heard “Gary Shuchuk” and “Winner” in the same sentence.

Sure, this might have been one of the most exciting LA Kings-Vancouver Canucks games of all-time… but it was even more special for Bob Miller.

Because he didn’t have to get his wife a gift.

The LA Kings would go on to win Game 6 against the Vancouver Canucks as well and advance to the Conference Finals against… the Toronto Maple Leafs?!? That 1993 run was quite amazing for the Los Angeles Kings… so amazing that ESPN actually covered it. On Sportscenter even!
