Are the Kings in the Next Round?

Blog Opponent: Fear the Fin & Couch Tarts

The LA Kings Outsider has a great article breaking down the competitive (or should I say non-competitive) nature of Dustin Penner. It seems that this guy really lacks what it takes to be a big-game player. This should come as no surprise to Los Angeles Kings fans. We’ve seen plenty of incredibly talented players who just don’t seem to have the passion to compete. But those players weren’t traded at the deadline for a #1 draft pick and a former #1 draft pick. None of this matters to Coach Murray. He’s sticking with the fans’ new whipping boy, keeping Penner on the 3rd line…since Kyle Clifford, Brad Richardson and Wayne Simmonds are the current top line.

“Hey guys! I totally just scored!”

You heard me right. Clifford-Richardson-Simmonds is the most dominant line for the Kings right now. That line has 7 points in 3 games and they are giving it 100% each and every shift they are on the ice. In comparision, Dustin Penner is giving 8.5%. Brad Richardson is playing some of his best hockey ever as a King… further proving that this guy is at his peak when he’s on one of the top 2 lines. And he’s just so good looking.

Couple more points in the playoffs and you can step up that game, Brad.

If the Kings don’t win tonights game and get back to the future…
Drew Doughty’s gonna fade away forever.

The biggest story of the Kings-Sharks series (until the colossal meltdown on Tuesday) has been the childhood friendship of Drew Doughty and Logan Couture. Couture is a year older, but Doughty already has 3 NHL seasons under his belt while Couture is in the running for Rookie of the Year after his 32 goal season. So far in the playoffs, Doughty has 4 points in the series, while Couture has 3. Reading through all the articles about their friendship, you get the sense that these 2 young players used to do everything together.

The hardest part was figuring out who should be the geeky one.

Game 4 is tonight at Staples Center. I have a feeling the Kings will show up ready to play. And that Dustin Penner will at least show up to the arena.

“I can’t remember if the Kings locker room is to the left or the right…
Fuck it, I’ll just go home then.”
