WEEK 23 (Mar 17 – Mar 23)

Los Angeles Kings (40-25-6)

Kings fans, every time Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik connect for a goal

Drew Doughty Thinks Willie Mitchell is a Dork:

So first of all, Willie Mitchell spends his rest day hiking, and you are a lazy piece of crap.

But Drew Doughty took exception with some of his attire.

#SickBurn

You know what, I don’t feel bad for Willie Mitchell. When I look back at some of his old tweets, I realize that, in fact he may be the bully on this team.

Despite that, I don’t think any of us would ever want Willie Mitchell to change.

Earthquake!:

So there was an earthquake.

Of course Jon Rosen was near the epicenter. HE’S THE INISDER!!!

Jarret Stoll is the closest on the team to being a native Californian, and even he was freaked out.

Marian Gaborik seems to be fitting in pretty nicely in LA.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (46-18-7)

Just getting pumped up for the playoffs.

The Worst of the Worst from @ducksfanzone:

Back at the beginning of the season , we first heard murmurs about the Silfverberg chant.

Which apparently is this:

And apparently DFZ is still following this closely.

I watch a good amount of Ducks games, and have been following them closely all season. I’m not saying this chant doesn’t actually go on, but I feel like DFZ may be overstating its presence.

Penner’s Return:

How else could we recap Dustin Penner’s return to Anaheim than through Instagram and Twitter:

From what I can tell, the Capitals allowed Dustin Penner to bring his dog on the flight back to DC with them? So this story has a happy ending after all.

SHOOTOUT: WHO WON THE WEEK?

First Round, The New Guys:

Kings: Marian Gaborik

Four points in a five game homestand would be a solid addition for any team, let alone the goal-deficient Kings.

Ducks: Stepane Robidas

I’m not saying 22 minutes of ice time is too much for a guy in his second game, after missing most of the season with a serious injury, but 22 minutes of ice time is too much for a guy in his second game, after missing most of the season with a serious injury.

Winner: GABBO Keeps Scoring (even in the shoot out)

Second Round, War of Words:

Kings: Darryl Sutter, via lakingsinsider.com:

On whether he felt this morning’s earthquake:

Yep. [Reporter: You’ve felt a couple of those before though, right?] Several. In San Jose we used to get them fairly regularly. [It was] I don’t know, the third or fourth one here. Actually, we just had one. We were in Winnipeg. There was then too, I think. Winnipeg or Edmonton. It was on our last trip, anyways. [Reporter: Get those in Viking at all?] No.

Man, I hope Darryl Sutter never witnesses a crime.

Ducks: Bruce Boudreau, via latimes.com

On the loss of Cam Fowler:

“It’s not what we wanted, but we will get through it,” Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau said. “We know Cam will work hard to get back, and in the meantime, guys will step up. Another example of why having depth is important.”

FYI, in this case “depth” means “Bryan Allen” so we’re not out of the woods yet.

Winner: Tyler Toffoli’s sense of security

Tyler Toffoli, via lakingsinsider.com:

On this morning’s earthquake:
I felt it, yeah. I was here two summers ago and I think I felt one. That was bigger, too. [Reporter: Was it the night one at like 11:00 p.m., or something?] I can’t remember. They both woke me up, but it was weird. I thought somebody was actually breaking into my house.

How small-town Canadian are you if you are worrying about crime, living in the South Bay? The closest thing to a crime that ever happens in Manhattan Beach is when one of the locals at El Porto tells a val to get off his wave. Are they still being called vals?

Third Round, Video Highlight of the Week:

Kings:

By beating the Panthers, Jonathan Quick became the winning-est goalie in Kings history. The fact that he has only been in the NHL for 6+ seasons further cements this franchises sad legacy.

Ducks:

You know that Jonas Hiller is show-boating a little too much, when John Ahlers doesn’t even overreact and scream something about a “right-handed robbery.”

Winner: Mike Richards, greatest 4th line center in NHL history

WINNER OF THE WEEK: Darryl Sutter’s 500th win

You can tell that it means a lot to him. I have never seen him so excited.

A rambling man, Hrudey can't be tied to any one team. But because he's too cheap for NHL Gamecenter, his NHL universe consists only of Ducks and Kings broadcasts. What he lacks in knowledge of the actual sport of hockey, he makes up for in snark and pop culture references. You can follow Hrudey Can't Fail on Twitter @HrudeyCantFail.
