Blue Teal

As it always seems to be when it comes to Los Angeles sports teams… as soon as they get hot… the celebrities show up in mass. And Thursday night at Staples Center against the San Jose Sharks was no different…

Well, at least Craig Ferguson’s show has outlast the other late-night talk show from another big Kings fan

Seeing Craig Ferguson at the game didn’t cause the biggest gasp amongst Los Angeles Kings fans… no, that came from the mouth of Terry Murray after watching his team give up a game-tying goal with 3.2 seconds left in the game.

So the Kings get 2 points, while the Sharks battle back twice to gain 1 point. It’s pretty much reached a level in the Western Conference where every team in the top 8 are going to go to overtime… handing out points left and right until the last day of the season. So as a fan… all you can hope is that your team gets the extra point. I know it’s hard to believe, but as a Kings fan, I’ve actually been through a lot of playoff drives… but I can’t remember one ever being as nerve-wracking as this one has been… even when this team lost 11 straight in 2003-2004 to fall out of a playoff spot. But tonight wasn’t about the 2 points the Kings earned to leap back into 5th place in the West, no… it was about the debut of Oscar Moller on the 1st Line!

Nice haircut, kid. Who’d you steal that from… Wayne Gretzky?

Oh… I guess you did.

By the way… did Ray Bourque eat the Stanley Cup after winning it?
Or was this guy the gay art director fired from Sterling Cooper

The greatest thing about having Oscar Moller back on the team is
I can use my Pat & Oscar’s logo for the first time since Patrick O’Sullivan got traded.

The only person who looked younger and nerdier than Oscar Moller tonight?

This kid.
Worst episode of 2 and 1/2 Men ever!

But the real story tonight wasn’t the inspired play of the recent call-up to replace Justin Williams… no, it was all about another “wear my emotion on my sleeve” type night for Head Coach, Terry Murray.

Happy.

Sad.

This actually isn’t a photo of Coach Murray’s emotion…it’s from his photo album when
he posed in front of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” in person over the summer. Top left corner.

Coach Murray gets frisky and shows the woman who always sits behind him
what he is going to do to her if the Kings win this game in a shootout.

Tonight also featured the regional sports cable network debut of the final chapter in the Kings Marketing Department player profiles better known as Undisputed… a new web series from the Los Angeles Kings that shows off the fact they hired a director that went to a film school and knows how to use the zoom knob on the camera. Tonight was Drew Doughty’s time to shine.

“I call it, Blue Teal.”

Unlike past episodes of Undisputed, the Drew Doughty version really dug deep into his personal life. Like the first time he got scared by a creepy Wayne Gretzky statue.

Seriously, what the fuck is that Gretzky statue thing?

Or the reasons for why he got so beat up as a child…

I played hockey growing up in LA. And even we knew to beat you up
if you showed up to practice in a Wayne Gretzky jersey.

I’m just taking a guess here, but I think Drew might have been teased for his ears growing up.

I have no idea who the kid next to Drew Doughty is… but that’s the coolest Toronto Blue Jays warmup I’ve ever seen.
If there is one thing I know about Drew Doughty, it’s that the dude loves his Blue Jays

“Hey asshole. You know what I had to do to get you? I had to convince the fans that I signed
Kyle Calder and Tom Preissing because I thought they were good! You know how hard that was for me?!”

All the internet is a buzz over the fact that Doughty admits in his Undisputed that he’s… well… he’s afraid of birds. Scroll ahead to 9:17.

He also admitted he was an extra in Fiona Apple’s “Criminal” video.

Drew has come a long way from his geeky days growing up in Canada…

This is pretty much the same view most of the ladies in Hermosa Beach get on Friday nights.

But even though he’s come a long way in the last 3 seasons…

Drew Doughty is still a tremendous dork.

But Drew Doughty is a tremendous dork that you can go on a cruise with! That’s right, earlier this week, the Kings Marketing Department announced the players who will be on their 2011 Kings Fan Cruise to Mexico! And it looks like this year it will be Doughty, his best friend Wayne Simmonds and rookie Trevor Lewis that will have their pick of the litter in terms of banging fans on a boat. And you know what that means?

I can assure you this is one Kings-sanctioned event I will not be attending.
