A Mighty Conspiracy Against the LA Kings
Most conspiracy theories are flimsy, largely inconceivable and have no facts supporting them.
But when bad things happen, people want to blame something, anything that will shift away attention from the real source of frustration.
In this case, it’s the LA Kings playoff hopes and the obvious tankjob that the rest of the teams in the NHL have undertaken to ensure that the reigning Stanley Cup Champions won’t make the postseason this year.
@KingsMenPodcast I think there might be something to your father's conspiracy theory that teams playing Kings rivals are tanking.
— Brian Rowland (@brianrowland) March 10, 2015
If you listen to the podcast, the origin sure makes sense.
@KingsMenPodcast if Calgary wins tomorrow, we are doing a three hour conspiracy theory pod after the game.
— Lewis Kay (@lewkay) March 11, 2015
Make that a tidy 22 minutes of NHL Truther Talk.
But there’s no way that the Anaheim Ducks would purposely lose to Calgary Flames, right? Especially considering they just dropped a game to the Canucks two days prior.
I mean, the Ducks needed this win against the Flames to improve their own playoff chances!
…hmmm maybe not.
Still, I give the Ducks more credit than that.
They are, after all, fighting for the President’s Trophy and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
OK Ducks… You don't want the Kings in the playoffs, we don't want the kings in the playoffs. Give us two points and we are all happier.
— Martin Johnson (@Chief41) March 11, 2015
@KarenBeQuiet reading the Ducks reddit site, they have Operation: Regicide. so they're not unhappy if the ducks lose if it hurts the kings
— Balakay (@strixtle) March 11, 2015
If Kings fans are rooting for the Ducks to win tonight, then the Ducks should lose in regulation 0;)
— Jen Neale (@MsJenNeale_PD) March 11, 2015
This is all starting to make me uneasy.
I don’t know who I want to win?! I obviously love the Ducks! But I want Calgary to win to continue to keep the Kings out of the playoffs
— Breezy✨ (@Bre_Godglfr) March 12, 2015
The lesson is, kids: Hate always beats love.
Is it bad that I would not be mad if the Ducks lost tonight? Means the Kings stay out of a playoff spot? Of coarse I want the ducks to win.
— Daniel Jacobson (@Daniel_Jac9) March 12, 2015
Of “coarse” you do.
Once the game started, however, the Ducks showed that they weren’t going rollover for anyone.
Flames talked about how they need better starts….Down 2-0 to Ducks, 3 minutes in. 1st period goal differential is now -25, worst in NHL.
— Mike Kelly (@MikeKellyNHL) March 12, 2015
Kings fans rooting for the ducks makes me uncomfortable.
— DucksFanZone (@DucksFanZone) March 12, 2015
So Kings bandwagoners are all becoming Ducks bandwagoners for one night… cool.
— Vegas Ducks Fans (@VegasDucksFans) March 12, 2015
…and then it all went to hell…
SCORES!!! RAGIN STAJAN!!!! Wow we needed that its a 2-1 game Let's Go Flames!!!
— vintagejohnny84 (@vintagejohnny84) March 12, 2015
Herrrrrrrrrrre's Johnny (Gaudreau)! Great, quick hands. Flames tie it at 2.
— Michael Cronin (@TMichaelCronin) March 12, 2015
Stajan gets his second of the night. Had just five entering game. 3-2 Flames. Ferland's pass went in off his skate.
— Eric Stephens (@icemancometh) March 12, 2015
— Jeff Hope (@JeffHopeIsCool) March 12, 2015
And now it's 5-2, as Gaudreau scores HIS second of the game. It was 2-0 after two minutes.
— Ryan Pike (@RyanNPike) March 12, 2015
Kings and Ducks fans shared their mixed reactions as the game was unfolding.
I say we loose this game, just to bug Kings fans.
— Ducks Nation Talk (@talk_ducks) March 12, 2015
@LAKings do you think Ducks would intentionally lose in order to give 2 pts to Flames to help keep Kings out of that wildcard spot?
— CriticalMass (@CriticalMass63) March 12, 2015
I guess the Ducks don't want the Kings in the playoffs either.
— Tiffany Nguyencuu (@tiffywincoo) March 12, 2015
I honestly feel like the Ducks are trying to sabotage the Kings. Start Gibson against the Flames? Really?
— Blaze Beecher (@blazebeecher) March 12, 2015
Kings fans: Ducks are trying to loose!
— Ducks Nation Talk (@talk_ducks) March 12, 2015
The Ducks are obvs losing this game to piss off the Kings..
— Mikyal (@mikyalanas) March 12, 2015
The Kings are not happy with this score. Well played Ducks, well played…
— Bryan Boggs (@bryanlboggs) March 12, 2015
The Ducks really don't want the Kings in the playoffs
— Mike (@mjzitek) March 12, 2015
I can’t help but wonder if the Ducks are letting the Flames win so they can get more points and the Kings won’t make the playoffs
— Brittany Crawford (@britlovesmusic) March 12, 2015
Only logical explanation is the Ducks are so afraid of losing to the Kings in playoffs again that they aren’t helping them in the standings.
— Jess (@Jesswhy) March 12, 2015
Ducks are throwing this game vs. Calgary. What are you scared of the Kings? #wtfducks
— Andy Grenier (@grenierandsons) March 12, 2015
Ducks lost on purpose to Calgary I bet. They don't wanna see the Kings in the playoffs.
— Daniel Trejo (@Tre_AllDay) March 12, 2015
Ducks are trying so hard not to play the Kings in the first round.
— ●—● (@badactionhiro) March 12, 2015
Anaheim lost today purposely to fuck over the Kings the ducks are just fucking assholes!
— Andrew Segura (@AndyZ1o) March 12, 2015
Maybe the conspiracy theorists are onto something here…
