THE ROOT TO THE PLAYOFFS: Feb. 27th – Mar. 1st

The LA Kings have 22 games left in their 2014-15 season and they will not make the playoffs without significant help from the rest of the league. Knowing which team to root for in any given matchup can be complicated so we’ve put together this handy guide for you.

Rooting Guidelines for games not involving the Kings:

RULE 1 – Always root for an Eastern Conference Team over a Western Conference Team.

RULE 2 – Almost always root for a Central Division Team over a Pacific Division Team.

RULE 3 – Always root for the higher ranked team when two Central Division Teams are playing each other.

FRIDAY, February 27th

Calgary at New York

It would do wonders for my sanity if the Islanders could help put out the Flames.

Both teams have 63 points in 61 games. Both of them should be in full tanking mode which of course means this game will go to OT.

Root: NO OT

SATURDAY, February 28th

Ottawa at San Jose

The Sharks chances of making the playoffs currently sit at 23.92% according to nerds on the internet.

Minnesota at Colorado

Both of these teams use singular nouns for their name. That bothers me. Also… Avalanches happen in the Wild? Or something? I don’t care…  Go Avs, I guess.

SUNDAY, March 1st

St. Louis at Vancouver

There are only two times when it’s appropriate to root for the Blues.

1. When it benefits your favorite hockey team.

2. When they’re played by Bleeding Gums Murphy

Of all the members of Team TRH Jesse Cohen probably comes closest to actually hating the Kings. Whether obsessing over the 1998 sweep at the hands of the St. Louis Blues, wishing he had witnessed the fight between Dmitri Khristich and Barry Potomski or cursing their attempts to fool the fans by dressing Randy Robitaille for 18 games, Jesse harbors a deep-seeded resentment towards the Kings. You can follow Jesse Cohen on Twitter @KingsMenPodcast.
