So instead of just recycling some old TRH articles like I usually do for Throwback Thursday…  this week we are featuring some of the best LA Kings videos from the 2001-02 season as curated by Spike Coffman, The Royal Half’s LA Kings Video Historian. Let’s take a look back at the 2001-02 season, also known as the last time the LA Kings made the playoffs before 2010! Fire up The Royal Half Video Machine!!!

Oh, it’s fired up alright.

With everyone talking non-stop about the debut of Fox Sports 1 and their incredibly fancy graphics… you can’t deny that this 2001-02 Opening Night (The LA Kings 35th Season!) segment from Fox Sports Net doesn’t feel slightly dated.

*WARNING: If you are longtime LA Kings fan…
this video will depress the shit out of you*

On October 7th, 2001… in the LA Kings 2nd game of the season… a fresh-faced and over-fed Willie Mitchell scores his 2nd NHL goal… as a member of the Minnesota Wild?!?

Willie Mitchell hasn’t taken a shot this hard since…
well the last time he went out in Venice.

The start of the 2001-02 NHL Season was a very trying one for LA Kings fans… but at least fan-favorite Glen Murray led the charge out of the gate… scoring goals at will.

I’d love to get a tally of how many times Fox Sports West has used
“King of Kings” when profiling a Kings player during an opening segment.

While the team struggled with a 3-4-1-1 record to open the 2001-02 season… Glen Murray had 6 goals and 5 assists in just 9 games.

And after scoring this goal, the LA Kings promptly traded Murray the next day for Jason Allison.

AllisonJJGraffitiTote#NeverForget. Even if you tried.
Jason Allison and Brad Chartrand in the same photo could cause LA Kings fans to go blind.

Later in the 2001-02 season, on March 21st, LA Kings legend, Jaroslav Bednar, makes a certain current NHL Head Coach and Director of Player Operations look silly.

Bedknobs forever.

If these videos from the 2001-02 season don’t make you sad enough as a LA Kings fan… maybe this one from November 9th of the same season will…

FYI, this also happened in the same season as Luc’s 600th:

I’d say that 2001-02 Detroit team was pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

Today, the Brett Hull just uses 600 different lines to hit on girls.

I don’t know about you guys… but Spike has posted so many videos from the early 2000s that it’s got me a bit tongue-tied!
