It looks like the Los Angeles Kings take Throwback Thursday way more seriously than I do.

That's right, former LA Kings defenseman, Rob Blake, was announced as the new Assistant GM for the LA Kings today. Now, you can listen to my thoughts on this move on the last episode of All The Kings Men Podcast… but I think there are a lot of LA Kings fans out there that would rather remember Rob Blake as this…

… instead of this:

Again… I have no issue with this move for the Los Angeles Kings. In fact, it just shows how much Dean Lombardi is truly in charge of this franchise… and will be for a long time. (Rob Blake ain't replacing anyone anytime soon.) Dean Lombardi is a man who respects the culture and legacy of a NHL franchise… someone who feels like the elite players from an organization's history should be embraced and showcased. Anyone remember who carried the Stanley Cup Banner out on the ice for the team last January?

Bonjour, bitches.

Another big reason for this move has to come from Rob Blake's former teammate and current LA Kings President of Business Operations, Luc Robitaille. LA Kings fans need to slowly accept the reality that one day Rob Blake's jersey will hang from the Staples rafters. Bringing Blake into the management fold helps that transition for the fanbase and gives Rob Blake the opportunity to learn on the job from some of the best in the business… before he leaves to become the San Jose Sharks GM.

Everyone knows that after he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, Rob Blake was booed mercilessly by LA Kings fans each time he played in front of them. But what a lot of people don't know is that during the back half of a Home & Home series between the LA Kings and Avalanche on January 28th of 2002, fans in Denver decided to show Rob Blake just what they thought of him:

And a few weeks later, on March 9th, 2002… Rob Blake talked about how great it is for a player to be with one team for his entire career.

Umm… awkward.

But the most depressing LA Kings-related Rob Blake video of all?

… the one that shows how set for the next few years
the LA Kings will be after trading Rob Blake.

My biggest concern with Rob Blake becoming the Assistant GM for the LA Kings is that his name is synonymous with one word when it comes to LA Kings history…

Let's just agree that this is how we'll always remember Rob Blake as a LA King…

… delivering so many illegal hits.

Well, at least Rob Blake was the only former LA Kings defenseman to make headlines on this Throwback Thursday.

I said "headlines."

And when it comes to Throwback Thursday… former teammate of Rob Blake, Bernie Nicholls, has a completely different understanding of what it means.

More like Throw Hay Thursday, am I right?!?
Rob Blake and Bernie Nicholls have taken very different post-retirement career paths.
