TRH PLAYOFF RECAP GAME 2 – ST. LOUIS BLUES: DEJA BLUES

KINGS 1, BLUES 2

*THE FOLLOWING BELOW IS NOT WRITTEN BY THE ROYAL HALF,
BUT RATHER PUMPERNICHOLL, OUR MASTER RECAPPER*

Before a colossal mistake led to the St. Louis Blues being able to steal Game 1 of the series against the Los Angeles Kings, all eyes were fixated on Jonathan Quick. The stalwart netminder appeared to regain his 2012 form in the opening game against the Blues. And his stellar performance gave his team a fantastic chance to take one on the road before a mishandled puck gave Alex Steen cult status in the Midwest.

#NeverForget

Heading into the second game of the series, fans had some big questions:

1) Are the Kings going to respond to their offensive no-show in Game 1?
2) Could the Blues finally solve Quick?
3) Would anyone be able to watch the game in its entirety?

Short answer: No.

Regardless, onto the eerie foresight and general yelling at no one in particular!

PREGAME:
Fool me once…

This was Nick Nickson's original call for Jarret Stoll's game-winner against Vancouver.

Fool me twice…

C'mon gang, no way that happens again!

Apparently this is Midwest smack talk. I think we should be insulted.

I'm not sure you understand how puns work.

*sigh*

Only a bandwagoner would say that.

As the start of the game approached, fans began to grow more anxious after the #SplitScreenGate debacle. Their beloved Kings were supposed to be on CNBC as part of a national broadcast. Problem was there was already a nationally televised game in progress … being played by two teams that didn't play in this nation.

Kings fans tried to be rational.

Even celebrities were curious about what would transpire.

People helped each other out.

…then it all went to hell.

Because that turned out so well.

Pretty sure that's how an angry Canadian tweets a question.

That would be the second most ridiculous call Bob Miller ever made.

Seriously, how quickly do people forget?!

FURIOUS #FURIOUS

As you can see, people did not take this well. And it only got worse!

Still can't figure out why other countries hate America.

1st PERIOD:

The Kings needed to come out strong after the way Game 1 ended, and they did just that. Thanks to some hard work and a few blunders by the Blues, the Kings found themselves with plenty of early powerplay time to set up an offensive attack. And just like that…

I love hockey fans.

HA! Barret Jackman! Haven't heard that name in forever!

But crazy as it may sound, Brown's goal did not win over the fans in St. Louis. Strange, right? Well, the Kings captain wasn't sold on whether they were yelling "Blues" or "boo" after he scored. These sorts of things eat Brown up, so he had to find out for sure by throwing a patented knee-bow combo.

I guess Dustin Brown is our asshole friend now.

Apparently Clifford gave all of St. Louis a concussion with this punch.

2nd PERIOD:

You know how there's a random fact or idea that casually sticks out in certain situations? It's a completely useless piece of information that a majority of people would gloss over or not think about, but for some reason it just stays with you? Well mine is the Kings record when they score first in a game. Despite the fact the team won over 80% of games that they scored first in and 94% of games in which they've led after the first period, I still vividly recall the second game of the season against Colorado where they ended up losing despite scoring first and leading after one period. So I get overly nervous in 1-0 games because I just assume the other team will tie it. Outstanding confidence in my favorite team right there.

Call this a hunch, but I think Hitchcock should have listened to this guy…

The first blow in the epic #NHLCyYoung Showdown.

3rd PERIOD:

We all know what happens. Let's just see how people dealt with it, shall we?

Final score: Fuck 3, Shit 2.

The second time you read that tweet it gets much more graphic.

NO COOKIES?!?

Such a screw up that guy.

NO NEED FOR RACIST TAUNTS!
Oh, Roman Polak. The Czech dude. My bad.

More outstanding confidence and punctuation from the Kings faithful.

Wrongest. Last. Name. Ever.

Guys, I think Moon Pie is serious.

*two days earlier*
OK maybe not.

GO KINGS GO

Never change, Kings fans.

TRH THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

3. Keaton Ellerby and Jake Muzzin

24:01 combined ice time.
One shot on goal.
A minus-3 rating.

2. Jonathan Quick

23 saves to keep the Kings in a game where their offense let them down couple with one blunder made by Quick led to another loss. Should Quick have made the save? Well he admitted as much after the game.

Oh by the way, Quick's stats these playoffs?
.940 Save Percentage
1.82 Goals Against Average

1. Jonathan Bernier

…just see the stats above.

I'll see you all at Staples on Saturday.
