2013 LA WEB AWARDS RECAP: WEB OF DECEIT

As some of you might have heard… The Royal Half was nominated in the 2013 LA Weekly Web Awards for Best Local Sports Blog.

Best Sports Blog

The list of nominees in the Sports Blog category was really impressive… and no matter who won, it’s a victory for the anti-mainstream media, self-supported indie blogging sports world.

The 2013 LA Web Awards was Wednesday night at Bardot in Hollywood. And boy… just minutes before the ceremony, it was really easy to see just how nervous the nominees in the Sports Blog category were.

Modern Hiker should have been disqualified as a blogger.
Because it seems like he has an actual job.

Honestly, PumperNicholl is the only true LA native in this contest.

Since we heard there was going to be free booze and food… myself, HSTHB, PumperNicholl, Jesse Cohen and Jack A. Wilson entered the doors of Bardot with the sincere hope that #TeamTRH just might be crowned the best Local Sports Blog of 2013. And as soon as we walked in, we all knew that we were in the right place…

… if we were nominated for Best Celebrity Instagrammer.

What’s that? Free food and drinks for bloggers? Well I can’t imagine it will get all that crowded, right? RIGHT?!?

I can guarantee you that without even meeting #TeamTRH…
Patricia was greatly disappointed.

Finally, it was time to give out the LA Web Awards. All 36 of them!

FYI, this is a real Tweet and not an Indiana Matt photoshop.

Then it was the moment we’d all been waiting (and literally sweating) for.

That’s right, the winner was Land O’Lakers, a LA Lakers blog run by Brian and Andy Kamenetzky, who are writers and radio hosts in Los Angeles, and have covered local and national sports for over a decade with the Los Angeles Times and ESPN. And just like the LA Lakers in the 2013 Playoffs… the Kamenetzky brothers didn’t show up.

Well, I may not have won a LA Web Award… but at least I still have the respect and admiration of my LA Kings Blogger peers.

Most of #TeamTRH headed for the exits after the awards ceremony (FYI, PumperNicholl never leaves an open bar) and we walked off into the sunset…. of Sunset Boulevard. And as I sat in my car, feeling depressed… I received the best advice from someone special to my blogging heart.

No.

Closer.

Nailed it.

Unfortunately for LA Kings fans across the great city of Los Angeles… until the 2014 LA Weekly Web Awards… this is the only trophy they’ll have to care about.

The 2013 LA Weekly Web Awards was a great experience and our sincerest congrats go out to all the nominees and the winners. And I’m really glad that I went to the ceremony because I learned something really important about the culture of blogging in Los Angeles…
