ARE THE LA KINGS IN THE NEXT ROUND?
NO!

I wish there was some way to visually represent how Los Angeles Kings fans felt after watching their favorite hockey team beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 in Game 1 of their 2nd Round Playoff Series.

Nope.

Closer.

Really close.

Nailed it.
Seriously… have you ever seen a better visual representation of “Shit Eating Grin” in your whole life?

Forget about Dwight King’s hit from behind on the best defenseman to come out of the 2008 NHL Draft. Forget about Matt Greene’s unlikely shorthanded tap-in goal from 1 foot in front of the net. And forget about Dustin Penner’s new nickname of Minnesota Fats… this 2nd Round Series is all about the playoff beards.

I don’t know about you guys… but I’m pretty sure Jeff Carter’s playoff beard has frosted tips.

Now that the 2nd Round of the NHL Playoffs has switched to exclusive coverage on the NBC family of networks… as someone who lives in Los Angeles I’m starting to understand this part of the country they call “The Midwest” a little bit better.

The “Wendy’s Robo Cam.”

The “KFC Player Profile.”

The “McDonald’s St. Louis Blues Fan Cam.”

I know I said to forget about it earlier… but we need to talk about that shorthanded, game-winning goal from LA Kings stay-at-home defenseman, Matt Greene.

That goal by Matt Greene was so unexpected it actually melted the NBC SN Satellite Truck, Raiders of the Lost Ark style.

And LA Kings fans were so surprised by the fact that Matt Greene had scored a shorthanded goal they rubbed their eyes in disbelief until they were red.

If aliens landed on this planet and said “what does a hockey player look like?”
I would show them this screengrab.

Guys… maybe Colin Fraser wasn’t bleeding from his eyes after a high stick from T.J. Oshie… maybe he was just getting ready to check out a Goth show later that night in St. Louis.

And seriously… Dustin Penner was called “The X-Factor” so many times on Saturday that you would think these playoffs are being broadcast on FOX.

Well… they do need new judges actually. So it could work.

The NHL is pleased with this series so far because they love featuring a rags-to-riches story in their brand new Playoffs Ad Campaign.

I can’t watch tonight’s Game 2 against the St. Louis Blues live. I am shutting down my phone at 6pm because it’s gotten to the point where everyone and their mothers are texting me about the Los Angeles Kings winning in the playoffs. So I’ll be watching late tonight on DVR while I look up into the sky and hope that the LA Kings can win the first 2 games of a playoff series on the road… again.

“Are you there God? It’s me, Awesome.”
