Pundays: Eight is Enough
Well, the fans of pun-filled NHL.com headlines have spoken! We had nearly 1000 votes in the 1st round of the Pundays Playoffs, where the best NHL.com Pun Headlines from the 2010-2011 season go head to head until a winner is declared. And just like in the NHL… a Washington Capital isn’t making it out of the 1st round!
Try again next season, Ovi.
Now we head into exciting Conference Semifinals action, as the final 8 Pundays are seeded into head to head battle. Who will survive this round and make it into the Conference Finals? Once again, you… the fan of awful pun headlines… gets to decide with your vote!
The first series in the 2nd round pits two of the brightest young talents in Pun Headlines.
Coming in as the #1 seed is a Pun Headline that combines a star forward who looks like FrankenBerry with one of the most beloved WWF wrestlers of all time. This Pun Headline was the most popular of all headlines in the first round, receiving 252 votes.
Its opponent is a tough one. At only 23 years old, this Pun Headline star already has a Stanley Cup, his own personal watering hole and is even a hit with the ladies. Some might even say these are some of the best Toews of this young captains’ life!
In our other Western Conference Pundays Playoff battle, it’s a repeat of two past NHL playoff series… the Detroit Red Wings versus the Phoenix Coyotes. And as per usual with this particular playoff matchup… Pavel Datsyuk is always making the Coyotes look silly.
But could this be the year that the Phoenix Coyotes finally make it past the Western Powerhouse Red Wings? Wouldn’t it be great if the 1st time the Coyotes are able to beat the Red Wings in something is after Ilya Bryzgalov has left for greener pastures?
The big series in the East is reflective of an actual NHL playoff rivalry, as Tyler Seguin from the Boston Bruins takes on Andrej Meszaros of the Philadelphia Flyers. This matchup is all about Video Games and Candy… something every hockey blogger should know a lot about.
The other matchup in the East also involves a Philadelphia Flyer… kind of. But it also involves thousands of Pittsburgh Penguins’ fans hearts being ripped out simultaneously.
To beat the Jaromir Jagr Pun Headline might take some intervention from a higher source. Luckily, Cam Ward has that covered.
There you have it… Round 2 of the Pundays Playoffs. Vote early, vote often and tune in next week to see which Pun Headlines make it to the Conference Finals!!!
