Pundays: Tampa-ture Gauge

It’s the first week of May and here in Los Angeles, it’s nearly 90 degrees. But for the cities in which their NHL team is still playing hockey, it’s even hotter. The 2nd round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs began this past week and some may say that due to all the heated games being playing inside NHL arenas… the temperature is rising.

Click here to check out the best and worst NHL.com pun headlines from the 3rd week of the NHL playoffs!!!

After the first week of 2nd round action, there is one thing that the pun headline writers at NHL.com are sure of… Pekka Rinne has a spectacular name when it comes to puns.

Pekka Rinne has such an awesome pun headline name that NHL.com went into double overtime using it as a headline.

The Western Conference goaltenders have been strong this playoffs. And by strong, of course, I mean awesome to make puns out of.

I still maintain that “Arch Niemi and The Big Pavelski” would make an awesome comic book.

If the NHL really wanted to go for it,
this would be “Public Niemi #2.”

But there is one hope for the Eastern Conference when it comes to goaltenders that have the skills and pun name to win the Stanley Cup. And that hope is Dwayne Roloson.

But who cares about the individual players when you’ve got Team-Name Pun Headlines carrying over into Round 2?

I can’t wait for the NHL commercial that includes a mash-up from this guy and this guy.

Bru-de, Where’s My Car?

How many ways can NHL.com use the word “orange” to celebrate a Game 7 victory? Twice.

This headline is relevant because this is the same way Flyers coaches
have to convince their goaltenders to start games.

This past week, we saw the rare White Whale of NHL.com pun headlines… the “Player Name and Opposing City Pun.”

From a Penguins fan perspective, this should have been ”Berg is the Pitts.”

It’s Player-Name-Pun-Headline Time!!!

This headline is funny because if you ask a NHL fan who Chauncey Billups is, they have no idea.
And if you ask a NHL fan who Chris Higgins is, they have no idea.
Unless they were a Canadiens fan in 2008

Next to this headline, this is the closest Lou Diamond Phillips has ever been to hockey.

I have a feeling that when Benn Ferriero envisioned the headline honoring his 1st career playoff goal… this was not it.
And please let Benn Ferriero get traded to Dallas so he can be on a line with Jamie Benn.

If Tampa Bay ends up playing Boston, I’m hoping for
“Downie and Out in Peverly Hills.”

As pointed out by Flyers Goal Scored By, this is not even a pun.

A bit off-topic, but NHL.com took the time this week to unveil Sydney Crosby’s brand new marketing nickname.

And this week’s winner of the Pundays Headline of the Week, NHL Awards Edition….

I mean, that Corey Perry is pretty dreamy.
