Bring The Noise
It was only the 4th home playoff game for the Los Angeles Kings in the last 8 years… so the novelty hasn’t worn off like it has for other teams. The Kings organization and their fans still get excited about making the playoffs so they try to create a great atmosphere. There was music…
There were games…
Worst. Dustin Brown and Jack Johnson themed moon-bounce. Ever.
There was fan interaction…
There were legends of the past…
Funny enough, the original logo for the NBA also had Jerry West wearing the Kings 3rd jersey on it.
And then the game started!
And Dustin Penner is an awful, horrific hockey player.
Kings 5, Sharks 6 (OT)
Sharks lead series 2-1
Kings should be leading series 2-1
I’m not saying that Dustin Penner is the sole reason the Los Angeles Kings lost a 2nd period 4-0 lead to the San Jose Sharks. No, I’m just saying that maybe next time he could put a body on 22 goal scorer Devin Setoguchi on the backcheck during overtime in a Stanley Cup Playoff game.
Of course, the real story tonight wasn’t the complete and total collapse of the Los Angeles Kings and their 4 goal lead at the start of the 2nd period. No, it was about the Kings Organization’s response to a worthless article written in a two-bit local San Jose newspaper.
That’s right, the Los Angeles Kings Organization passed out copies of the Purdy article that everyone has been talking about to fans as they walked into Staples Center.
Mark Purdy Article Madness even spread to the most sacred of places inside Staples Center….
The Men’s urinal.
Inside the arena, Kings fans were ready. This is the first time playing San Jose in the playoffs, but there is already plenty of bad blood between these two teams.
Doug Murray is a strong, immovable, fat cow.
With such a marquee playoff game being played in Los Angeles… all the former celebrities came out in droves.
It’s former NHL Superstar, Anze Kopitar!
I get the feeling he is thinking here: “Man, Penner does really suck, huh?”
And then I found the only 2 people in the building who were not into this game.
The Kings fans brought it tonight. They were loud and the teams amazing start to the game only made them louder. But then the Kings discovered the one way to make their loyal fans quiet.
Losing a 4 fucking goal lead.
I don’t know really what to say right now. I’ve been stunned the last few hours. I went from leaping up onto my seat, hanging from a glass partition cheering for my favorite underdog hockey team as they stormed out to a 4 goal lead… to sitting slumped in my chair as beer cups and water bottles rained onto the ice in front of me. I have no doubt this team will put this game behind them. I just think any chance they had to steal this series away from the Sharks collapsed tonight… just like this team did in the 2nd period.
