The Los Angeles Kings held their latest theme night to honor the players of their past as Thursday night against the Phoenix Coyotes was “Dustin Penner Legends Night.” If you ask me, it wasn’t a moment too soon.

Left Wing Walking!

Kings 1, Coyotes 0

Sure, Dustin Penner didn’t score 34 goals Thursday against the Coyotes and for that reason alone, a lot of Kings fans are disappointed. But when big Dustin Penner provides the screen for a Power Play goal from a struggling Power Play unit, I think he did his job just fine in the first game.

How awesome is the Kings new “3/5ths Oilers” Power Play unit with
Ryan Smyth, Dustin Penner, Jarret Stoll, Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar?
I say kick Doughty out and put Matt Greene in.

But the biggest disappointment of the night for Dustin Penner came before the game even started.

“Um, this is a little awkward. But Dean Lombardi promised me that I would
only be interviewed by the young woman with the hot dog.”

“Listen, you are our hockey saviour. If you want me to put a hot dog in my mouth,
I’ll put a hot dog in my mouth.”

“Dude, that’s weird.”

I think it’s a given that any guy that’s described
as a big man with soft hands is a level 1 scorer.

Well, except this guy.

Even got in on the Penner Madness.

There is nothing pennsive about this headline.

And since this is Hollywood, the team at Fox Sports West HD took the opportunity to reveal their latest reality show.

America’s Next Top Line.

To continue with the “Dustin Penner Legends” theme night, the Kings brought out one of the fan’s favorite players from the last decade.

David Copperfield.

The players were so excited to have Dustin Penner on the team, that Willie Mitchell dealt with his happiness the only way he knows how…

By being a cutter.

Who cares about the debut of the #1 Left Winger when we’ve got ourselves a good, old fashioned Goalie Controversy! And after Jon Bernier’s 25 save shutout, Jon Quick is definitely receiving mixed messages.

Mixed messages that he should wear the Kings 3rd jersey with the legends crown.

Last night, Kings fans saw a good glimpse of the Jon Bernier they were promised.

This is still Jon Quick’s team. The biggest thing to come out of this controversy will be that Jon Quick actually gets some rest down the stretch, unlike last season. Quick or Bernier? Who cares?! This little Kings fan is as cute as a button.

It says so on her shirt.
