Red Dead Redemption
Now this is the fun part of the NHL regular season! 2 teams, both battling for a playoff spot duke it out on a Saturday night, on Hockey Night in Canada nonetheless. One team was in such a bad position just a short while ago that there were whispers they should trade away their franchise player… and the other team is the Calgary Flames.
Brent Sutter is elated with the fact his team comes
into this game with a 6 game winning streak.
While Coach Murray is beside himself with the Kings record of 4-0-1 in the last 5.
Kings 4, Flames 3 (S0)
Of course it was Western Night at the Calgary Saddledome…. because this was an old-fashioned Western Shootout. The Los Angeles Kings came into this game with 0 wins in the last 10 games against the Flames in Calgary . Why those are enough losses to fill up a… well… I guess a ten gallon hat, right?
The only place these folks are running to is the Century Casino Calgary
when Emerson Drive is coming to town.
There was one person in the arena who didn’t get the memo about dressing up in their Western best… why it was Special Assistant to the Acting GM, Craig Conroy!
He may have retired in Calgary, but his wardrobe will always be from Los Angeles.
Seriously is there a more corporate title than Special Assistant to the Acting GM?
Rudy Kelly has already shared his favorite Craig Conroy moment… but mine was that during Craig’s 1+ season as a Los Angeles King… Bob Miller constantly confused him with Dustin Brown. Maybe it’s because Conroy was #22 and Brown was #23. Maybe it was because they had a similar skating style. But I like to think it’s because they were both from that amazing hotbed of hockey… Upstate New York!
“You know what… from up here Dustin Brown does look like Trevor Lewis.”
“Hey, Alex… who would have thought that 5 years later both of our careers would be over?!?”
And in another case of blatant Toronto War Room hatred for the Los Angeles Kings… it seems that even after Justin Williams won the game in the shootout… the Kings still couldn’t earn 2 points.
I know Canada wants more teams in the playoffs, but this is getting ridiculous.
Let’s take a quick look at The Royal Half Playoff Tracker 3000!!!
How confident are the Los Angeles Kings right now? So confident that heading into the 2nd period of a pivotal game with the Calgary Flames… Drew Doughty sings along with Brooks & Dunn’s “Play Something Country.”
3 games on the road… 5 points… not bad, right? This whole “10 game roadtrip in February is going to be the death of this team thing” is over-rated, huh?
Penguins on Thursday. Capitals on Saturday. Flyers on Sunday. Oh, boy.
